Pumpkin Drama & Survivors 🌿🎭
In my previous blog, I proudly shared how two pumpkins were happily growing in my mini-greenhouse. Sadly… only one is still with us. The other grew so enthusiastically skyward that its stem snapped. Poor thing – but hey, the remaining pumpkin is thriving and still growing strong. A true little fighter!
A Holiday in Green 🍆🍅
Now that it’s summer holiday season in the Netherlands, I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a bit. I visited my dad, who lives just outside the urban chaos. He has a beautiful garden where he grows all kinds of vegetables, herbs, and fruits. He’s a real Botanian at heart. Everywhere you look, something is growing – eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, pumpkins, figs… you name it. We walked through the garden together, admired everything, and I helped him pick ripe vegetables and fruit. It was pure bliss to be surrounded by green, with nothing but the sound of buzzing bees and rustling leaves.
Rotterdam Goes Greener 🌳🏙
But… enough about the peaceful countryside – I’m a true city girl at heart. That’s why I love seeing Rotterdam becoming greener every year. This summer, the Meent – the popular street where my favorite café Huismeester is located – has been closed to traffic and transformed into a green oasis. There are trees, plants, and cozy seating areas. How great is that?
On Saturdays, I often grab a coffee here with my friend, after – as you might remember from my August blog – strolling through the Rotterdam Blaak market for fresh fruit and veggies. It’s the best of both worlds: market treasures and a lush city vibe.
